TogglePlanning a trip to Korea in October 2026? ๐
ย
October is one of my favorite times of year to travel around Korea. The weather is comfortable for exploring, autumn colors start appearing across the country, and festivals take place in different regions throughout the month. What makes October especially interesting is the variety of experiences you can have โ from royal palaces and traditional culture in Seoul to food festivals in Jeonju, lanterns in Jinju, Silla history in Gyeongju and major film and music events in Busan.
ย
I’ve put together the festivals I’d have on my radar, including the 2026 dates, Korean names, locations, admission information and who I think each festival is best for.
ย
Festival date note: Dates were cross-checked with Naver listings for this guide, but festival information can sometimes be missed, misread, or updated. Programs, times, venues, and reservations may change, so please check the latest official announcement or Naver listing before visiting.

๐ฅ My Top October 2026 Festivals for First-Time Visitors
With 30 festivals happening across Korea, the hardest part is knowing which ones are worth adding to your trip. Your choice will depend on where you’re staying, how much time you have and what kind of experience you’re looking for.
ย
If I were helping a friend plan their first October trip to Korea, these are the festivals I’d prioritize:

Korea Festivals in October 2026
๐ 1. Jeonju Bibimbap Festival โ ์ ์ฃผ๋น๋น๋ฐฅ์ถ์
๐
October 2โ4, 2026
๐ Jeonju
๐ Free
ย
If you’re coming to Korea and love food, this is an easy one to put on your list.
ย
Jeonju is already one of the best-known food destinations in Korea, and bibimbap is probably the city’s most recognizable dish.
Personally, I wouldn’t travel all the way to Jeonju just to spend an hour at the festival. I’d make a full day or overnight trip out of it. Start with Jeonju Hanok Village, wander through the traditional streets, eat local snacks, and then spend time at the festival. That’s the kind of itinerary I prefer because you’re experiencing Jeonju itself, rather than simply checking off a festival.
ย
Best for:
Food lovers
First-time Korea visitors
Couples
Families
Travelers who enjoy traditional Korean architecture
My tip:
Coming from Seoul? Take the KTX or express bus to Jeonju and consider staying overnight so you can enjoy the city without rushing back.
๐ธ 2. Busan International Rock Festival โ ๋ถ์ฐ๊ตญ์ ๋กํ์คํฐ๋ฒ
๐
October 2โ4, 2026
๐ Samnak Ecological Park, Busan
๐ Paid event
ย
This is for travelers who want something completely different from traditional Korean festivals.
The Busan International Rock Festival brings a live music atmosphere to the city and is a fun addition if you’re already visiting Busan in early October.
Rather than building your entire Busan trip around it, I’d treat it as one of your evening or weekend activities.
During the day, explore Busan normally, then head to the festival later.
ย
If you’re staying overnight, compare neighborhoods using my Best Areas to Stay in Busan for First-Time Visitors.
For travelers arriving directly from Incheon, my Incheon Airport to Busan Transportation Guide can also help you decide between the different routes.
๐ 3. Sorae Port Festival โ ์๋ํฌ๊ตฌ์ถ์
๐
October 2โ4, 2026
๐ Sorae Port, Incheon
๐ Free
ย
This is one of my favorite types of additions to a Korea itinerary because it feels different from central Seoul.
Sorae Port is known for its seafood and harbor atmosphere, so the festival is a good opportunity to combine food, performances and a local port-town experience.
ย
If you’ve already spent several days sightseeing around Myeongdong, Hongdae and the palaces, this gives you a different side of the Seoul metropolitan area.
ย
Best for:
Seafood lovers
Families
Repeat visitors
Travelers looking for a more local atmosphere
And because it’s in Incheon, you could potentially combine it with other Incheon attractions rather than making a separate trip.
๐ฅ 4. Bupyeong Pungmul Festival โ ๋ถํํ๋ฌผ๋์ถ์
๐
October 2โ4, 2026
๐ Bupyeong, Incheon
๐ Free
ย
If you want to experience traditional Korean performance without traveling deep into the countryside, this is worth considering.
Pungmul is traditional Korean percussion music and performance, and the festival creates a much livelier street atmosphere than a standard museum visit.
ย
I would recommend this to travelers who enjoy seeing how Korean traditional culture appears in a more modern city environment.
ย
Best for:
Traditional culture
Street performances
Families
Travelers staying in the Seoul/Incheon area
๐ค 5. Gangnam Festival โ ๊ฐ๋จํ์คํฐ๋ฒ
๐
October 3โ5, 2026
๐ Gangnam, Seoul
๐ Mostly free
ย
If your idea of Korea is more modern Seoul than traditional palaces, Gangnam Festival is probably going to appeal to you.
This is easy to fit into a Seoul itinerary because you don’t have to travel to another city.
You can spend the day around Gangnam, Apgujeong, Dosan Park or COEX, then check out festival events.
ย
My recommendation
Don’t dedicate three entire days to the festival unless you really want to.
Instead, check the daily program and choose the events that interest you.
ย
For more Seoul events happening during the same month, see my dedicated Seoul Festivals & Events October 2026: Best Things to Do, Dates & Free Events.
๐ฎ 6. Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival โ ์ง์ฃผ๋จ๊ฐ์ ๋ฑ์ถ์
๐
October 3โ18, 2026
๐ Jinju
๐ Main festival free
If you show me photos from this festival, I wouldn’t be surprised if you immediately added it to your Korea bucket list.
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival is known for its beautiful lantern displays around the Namgang River.
And here’s my biggest tip:
Don’t leave before dark. The daytime festival and nighttime festival feel like two different experiences.
If you make the trip to Jinju, stay until the lanterns are illuminated and give yourself enough time to walk around rather than taking a few photos and leaving.
Best for:
Couples
Photographers
Families
Night photography
First-time visitors who want something memorable
Coming from Seoul? Take the KTX or express bus to Jinju, and consider staying overnight so you can enjoy the lanterns after dark without rushing back.
๐ 7. Baekje Cultural Festival โ ๋ฐฑ์ ๋ฌธํ์
๐
October 3โ11, 2026
๐ Gongju / Buyeo
๐ Free
ย
If you’re fascinated by Korean history, put this one on your radar.
The Baekje Cultural Festival celebrates the history and culture of the ancient Baekje kingdom and takes place in Gongju and Buyeo.
This isn’t the type of destination I’d recommend squeezing into a packed Seoul day.
Instead, make it part of a wider historical trip.
Best for:
History lovers
Photographers
Repeat Korea visitors
Travelers who want something beyond Seoul
๐งโ๐ซ Want to Explore Gongju & Buyeo With a Local?
Since Gongju and Buyeo have so much history beyond the festival itself, a local tour guide can make the experience much easier and more meaningful.
๐ฉ Message me for local tour guide details and availability.
๐ฏ 8. Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival โ ์์ํ์ฑ๋ฌธํ์
๐
October 4โ11, 2026
๐ Suwon Hwaseong area, Suwon
๐ Festival mostly free
ย
This is one of my favorite recommendations for first-time visitors because Suwon is relatively easy to reach from Seoul.
You don’t need to move hotels.
You can leave Seoul in the morning, explore Hwaseong Fortress, have lunch, experience the festival, and return to Seoul later.
The festival also works beautifully with the historical atmosphere of Suwon itself.
ย
My suggested day:
Morning: Seoul โ Suwon
Late morning: Hwaseong Fortress
Lunch: Suwon galbi
Afternoon: Festival
Evening: Explore more of the fortress area
Night: Return to Seoul
ย
If you prefer to take your time, you can also stay overnight in Suwon instead of rushing back to Seoul.
๐ฌ 9. Busan International Film Festival โ ๋ถ์ฐ๊ตญ์ ์ํ์
๐
October 6โ15, 2026
๐ Busan
๐๏ธ Paid screenings
ย
If you’re a movie fan, this is one of the biggest October events in Korea to know about. The Busan International Film Festival, commonly known as BIFF, brings an international film audience to Busan.
Unlike many of the festivals on this list, you should expect paid admission for screenings, so don’t assume you can simply walk into every program for free.
ย
My tip
If you’re already planning Busan between October 6 and 15, check the program before finalizing your itinerary. You may find a screening you really want to see and can build your day around it.
ย
Planning to visit BIFF from Seoul? Take the KTX for the fastest option, or the express bus if you prefer a different way to travel. Staying overnight also gives you more time to enjoy the festival and explore Busan without rushing.

๐ 10. K-Royal Culture Festival โ ๊ถ์ค๋ฌธํ์ถ์
๐
October 7โ11, 2026
๐ Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung, Deoksugung, Changgyeonggung & Jongmyo Shrine, Seoul
๐ Many programs free
ย
If you only choose one Seoul cultural event from this list, this would be my choice.
The K-Royal Culture Festival is spread across Seoul’s major royal heritage sites, bringing together performances, exhibitions, traditional experiences and special cultural programs. What I love about this type of event is that you aren’t simply looking at a palace.
You’re experiencing the palace while something is actually happening there.
ย
Best for:
First-time visitors
History lovers
Photography
Families
Travelers interested in traditional Korea
Some individual programs can have separate requirements or fees, so check the specific event before going.
Planning a palace day? Stay in central Seoul and consider renting a hanbok for the full experience.
๐ง 11. Imsil N Cheese Festival โ ์์คN์น์ฆ์ถ์
๐
October 8โ11, 2026
๐ Imsil
๐ Free entry; some activities paid
ย
Yes, Korea has a cheese festival.
And that’s exactly why this is such a fun one to include. Imsil is known for its cheese, and the festival focuses on food and local experiences. I wouldn’t recommend traveling across Korea solely for this unless you’re really interested in food festivals, but if you’re already exploring Jeollabuk-do, it’s worth considering.
ย
๐งโ๐ซ Want a Local Guide?
Exploring Imsil and nearby areas? A local guide can make it easier to discover more beyond the festival.
๐ฉ Message me for local tour guide details and availability.
๐ผ 12. Jeongeup Chrysanthemum Festival โ ์ ์ ๊ตฌ์ ์ด ๊ฝ์ถ์
๐
October 8โ18, 2026
๐ Jeongeup
๐/๐๏ธ Program-dependent
ย
If you’re more interested in flowers and autumn scenery than concerts, this is one to watch.
The festival focuses on seasonal chrysanthemum scenery, making it a natural fit for an October Korea trip. Take a relaxed walk around the flower fields and combine your visit with other autumn attractions nearby.
ย
If you’re planning your trip around foliage as well, check my Best Places to See Autumn Foliage in Korea (2026 Guide).
๐๏ธ 13. Silla Cultural Festival โ ์ ๋ผ๋ฌธํ์
๐
October 9โ11, 2026
๐ Gyeongju
๐ Free
ย
Gyeongju is already one of the best places in Korea for history lovers, so adding a cultural festival makes an October visit even more interesting. Combine the festival with Gyeongju’s historical attractions and you’ll have a much fuller experience.
ย
Gyeongju is one of those places where Iโd recommend staying overnight rather than rushing back to Seoul.
๐จ Gyeongju hotels
๐๏ธ Gyeongju day trips & activities
๐ KTX tickets
๐ 14. Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Night โ ์ธ์ฒ๊ฐํญ์ฅ ๊ตญ๊ฐ์ ์ฐ์ผํ
๐
October 9โ11, 2026
๐ Incheon Open Port / Chinatown area
๐ Mostly free
ย
This is probably my top Incheon recommendation for first-time visitors.
Why?
Because the festival doesn’t require you to choose between a festival and sightseeing.
You can explore the historic Open Port area, visit Chinatown, see historic architecture and then experience the nighttime cultural programs.
That’s a very efficient way to spend a day.
ย
My suggested route:
Incheon Open Port โ Chinatown โ nearby historic attractions โ dinner โ nighttime festival
If you’re staying in Seoul, you can make this a day trip.
ย
๐งโ๐ซ Want to Explore Incheon With a Local?
If you want to discover more of Incheon beyond Chinatown and the Open Port area, a local tour guide can help you see places you might otherwise miss.
๐ฉ Message me for local tour guide details and availability.
๐ฅฉ 15. Hoengseong Korean Beef Festival โ ํก์ฑํ์ฐ์ถ์
๐
October 7โ11, 2026
๐ Hoengseong
๐ Free entry*
ย
For travelers who plan trips around food, Hoengseong is worth knowing. The festival celebrates Korean beef, with food-focused experiences and local products.
This is more of a regional destination festival, so I wouldn’t recommend adding it to an already overloaded first-time Seoul itinerary.
But if you’re traveling around Gangwon-do or want to explore beyond the usual tourist route, it becomes much more interesting.
ย
If you’re exploring Gangwon-do and want to see more than the festival itself, a local tour guide can help you discover nearby spots and make the most of your trip.
๐ฉ Want local tour guide details and availability? Send me a message for details.
๐ฐ 16. Geumjeongsanseong Festival โ ๊ธ์ ์ฐ์ฑ์ถ์
๐
October 16โ18, 2026
๐ Geumjeongsanseong area, Busan
๐ Free; some programs paid
ย
Here’s another reason October isn’t just about Haeundae and Gamcheon Culture Village.
The Geumjeongsanseong Festival gives you a chance to explore another side of Busan around Geumjeongsanseong Fortress.
๐ 17. Ulsan Whale Festival โ ์ธ์ฐ๊ณ ๋์ถ์
๐
October 15โ18, 2026
๐ Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Special Zone, Ulsan
๐ Free*
ย
This is one of the more unusual festivals on the list.
The Ulsan Whale Festival takes place in the Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Special Zone, giving visitors a chance to combine the festival with the area’s whale-related attractions.
I think this is particularly good for families.
Instead of simply attending a festival, you can make a whole day around the Jangsaengpo area.
ย
If you’re coming from Seoul, consider staying 1 night in Ulsan so you can enjoy the festival and explore Jangsaengpo without rushing.
๐ 18. Hangang Festival โ Fall โ ํ๊ฐํ์คํฐ๋ฒ ๊ฐ์
๐
October 17โ25, 2026
๐ Hangang River / Seoul’s Hangang Parks
๐ Many programs free
ย
If you don’t want to travel outside Seoul, this is one of the easiest events to add to your itinerary.
The Hangang Festival is spread across the river parks, so you don’t necessarily need to dedicate an entire day to it.
Personally, I would combine it with another Seoul activity.
ย
For example:
Seoul sightseeing โ cafรฉ โ Hangang Park โ festival โ sunset
That’s much more relaxed.
ย
๐๏ธ 19. Tamna Cultural Festival โ ํ๋ผ๋ฌธํ์
๐
October 17โ21, 2026
๐ Jeju City / Jeju Island
๐ Free*
ย
If you’re already planning Jeju in the second half of October, check this festival. The Tamna Cultural Festival focuses on Jeju’s traditional culture and identity. If you’re planning to stay for several days, my Best Areas to Stay in Jeju for First-Time Visitors can help you decide which area works best for your trip.
ย
Since Jeju is best explored over several days, plan your accommodation and transportation ahead.

๐ 20. Jeju World Natural Heritage Festival โ ์ ์ฃผ ์ธ๊ณ์ ์ฐ์ถ์
๐
October 3โ18, 2026
๐ Jeju Island
๐/๐๏ธ Program-dependent
ย
This is another strong choice for travelers who are interested in Jeju’s natural landscapes and heritage.
Rather than being only about performances or food, this type of event pairs naturally with Jeju’s outdoor attractions.
ย
If you’re already planning hikes, scenic drives and nature stops around Jeju, check the individual festival programs and look for day trips or outdoor experiences that fit your itinerary.
โ 21. Gangneung Coffee Festival โ ๊ฐ๋ฆ์ปคํผ์ถ์
๐
October 21โ25, 2026
๐ Gangneung
๐ Festival entry; some activities paid
ย
Coffee lovers, don’t skip this one.
Gangneung has developed a strong cafรฉ culture, and the coffee festival gives you another reason to explore the east coast.
You can combine coffee, the coast, cafรฉs and autumn scenery instead of treating the festival as your only activity.
ย
This is perfect for an autumn overnight trip from Seoul. Take the KTX or express bus, stay overnight, and enjoy Gangneung’s cafรฉs and coastline at a slower pace.
๐บ 22. Hanseong Baekje Festival โ ํ์ฑ๋ฐฑ์ ๋ฌธํ์
๐
October 23โ25, 2026
๐ Songpa, Seoul
๐ Free
ย
The Hanseong Baekje Festival focuses on the history and culture of Baekje’s Hanseong period.
The location also makes it easy to combine with other Songpa attractions.
ย
Think:
Festival โ Olympic Park โ Seokchon Lake โ Songridan-gil
That gives you plenty to do without spending your day commuting.
ย
Since the festival takes place across Seoul, you can easily fit it into your existing itinerary without changing hotels.
๐ถ๏ธ 23. Gwangju Kimchi Festival โ ๊ด์ฃผ๊น์น์ถ์
๐
October 23โ25, 2026
๐ Gwangju
๐ Free
ย
For serious food travelers, this is a fun one.
Gwangju already has a strong reputation for food, and the Kimchi Festival lets visitors experience Korean food culture in a more regional setting.
If you’re planning a food-focused Korea trip, I’d combine this with other local dishes rather than visiting just for kimchi.
ย

๐ 24. Gimcheon Gimbap Festival โ ๊น์ฒ๊น๋ฐฅ์ถ์
๐
October 23โ25, 2026
๐ Gimcheon
๐ Free
ย
Gimbap is one of those foods that almost every visitor ends up trying in Korea.
So a festival dedicated to it is naturally going to attract food lovers. I’d consider this more of a regional food-trip option than a must-see for someone visiting Korea for five days. But if you’re already traveling through the area, it’s a fun addition.
ย
If you’re exploring Gimcheon and want to discover more local spots beyond the festival, a local tour guide can help you make the most of your visit.
๐ฉ Want local tour guide details and availability? Message me.
๐ฑ 25. Geumsan Ginseng Festival โ ๊ธ์ฐ์ธ๊ณ์ธ์ผ์ถ์
๐
October 2โ11, 2026
๐ Geumsan
๐ Free
ย
Geumsan is famous for Korean ginseng, making this a very different kind of Korean festival.
It’s less about the big-city tourist experience and more about seeing a regional specialty celebrated where it comes from.
For repeat visitors, food travelers and people building a longer Korea itinerary, I’d definitely keep it in mind.
๐ฒ 26. Busan Pork Soup Festival โ ๋ถ์ฐ๋ผ์ง๊ตญ๋ฐฅ๋์ (Stage 4)
๐
October 16โOctober 18, 2026
๐ Busan
๐๏ธ BIFC2ย
ย
Busan and dwaeji-gukbap (๋ผ์ง๊ตญ๋ฐฅ) are practically inseparable. So if you’re a food lover visiting Busan during this period, this is an event worth checking. I wouldn’t plan an entire Busan vacation around it, but if you’re already in the city, look at the current program and see what food events are taking place.
And honestly, even outside the festival, you should try a proper bowl of pork soup while you’re in Busan.
ย
Coming from Seoul? Take the KTX or express bus, and consider staying overnight to enjoy more of Busan.

๐
October 9โ11, 2026
๐ Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, Paju
๐ 1:00 PMโ10:00 PM

ย
If you’re a K-drama or Korean OST fan, this is one of the more unique events on the list.
The festival focuses on Korean drama and film OSTs and takes place at Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri in Paju.
This is not a free festival. Tickets are required for the main event.
ย
Because Paju is outside central Seoul, I’d plan your transportation before the day of the festival. If you’re staying in Seoul, booking a hotel near a convenient transport area can also make the trip easier.
๐บ 28. Yangju Cheonilhong Festival โ ์์ฃผ ์ฒ์ผํ์ถ์
๐
October 2โ4, 2026
๐ Yangju
๐ณย Paid admission โ admission fee refunded as Yangju Love Gift Certificates
ย
If you’re looking for flowers rather than concerts, this is one to consider.
The Yangju Cheonilhong Festival is a seasonal flower event, making it a natural addition to an autumn Korea trip.
I’d particularly recommend it to photographers and travelers who enjoy slower sightseeing.
๐ท 29. Jarasum Jazz Festival โ ์๋ผ์ฌ์ฌ์ฆํ์คํฐ๋ฒ
๐
October 9โ11, 2026
๐ Jarasum, Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-do

ย
Jarasum Jazz Festival is a good choice if you want music and autumn scenery.
Gapyeong is already popular with travelers visiting Nami Island and other autumn destinations, so this can fit nicely into a wider trip.
However, because the festival is paid, check ticket availability before making the trip.

๐ 30. Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival โ ์ฌ์๋ฐค๋ฐ๋ค ๋ถ๊ฝ์ถ์
๐
October 31, 2026
๐ Yeosu
๐ Free to watch*
ย
October ends with fireworks.
The Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival is particularly appealing because of the city’s famous coastal scenery.
If you’re already planning a southern Korea trip at the end of October, this is worth considering.
ย
If you’re coming from Seoul, I’d stay overnight in Yeosu rather than rushing back after the fireworks.
๐ Which October Festival Should You Choose?
This is the comparison I think is actually useful when planning a trip.
What you want | Best choice | Why |
๐ Traditional Korean culture | K-Royal Culture Festival | Palaces + heritage |
๐ฎ Lanterns at night | Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival | River + lantern displays |
๐ฌ International event | Busan International Film Festival | Major film festival |
๐ Korean food | Jeonju Bibimbap Festival | Food + traditional Jeonju |
๐ฏ History | Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival | Fortress + historical programs |
๐ Night culture | Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Night | Historic district after dark |
โ Coffee | Gangneung Coffee Festival | Cafรฉ culture + east coast |
๐ Family trip | Ulsan Whale Festival | Whale-themed attractions |
๐ท Music | Jarasum Jazz Festival | Music + autumn setting |
๐ค K-drama/OST | Korean OST performances | |
๐บ Flowers | Yangju Cheonilhong Festival | Seasonal scenery |
๐ถ๏ธ Food culture | Gwangju Kimchi Festival | Regional Korean cuisine |
๐ Fireworks | Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival | Coastal nighttime scenery |
๐ Seoul Festival or Regional Festival?
Not sure whether to stay in Seoul or travel to another city for a festival? It depends on your trip length, budget and whether you also want to explore the destination.
| ย | Seoul / Nearby | Regional Korea |
๐ Transportation | Easier | More planning |
๐จ Hotel change | Usually unnecessary | Often useful |
โฐ Time required | Half-dayโ1 day | Usually 1โ2 days |
๐ฐ Budget | Generally easier | Transport + hotel |
๐ฐ๐ท Local atmosphere | Good | Often stronger |
๐ Autumn scenery | Excellent | Often excellent |
Which would I choose?
For 5โ7 days, I’d focus mainly on Seoul and add one easy regional trip.
With 10+ days, you have more flexibility to include destinations like Gyeongju, Busan or Jeju.
๐ How to Combine October Festivals With Autumn Foliage
This is where October gets really good.
ย
You’re not choosing between festivals and autumn leaves. You can often plan for both.
However, don’t assume that every destination reaches peak foliage on the same day. Korea stretches from north to south, and mountains can change color much earlier than lower-elevation southern areas.
ย
If foliage is one of the main reasons you’re visiting, start with my Best Places to See Autumn Foliage in Korea (2026 Guide).
For Seoul specifically, I’ve also put together Best Places to See Autumn Foliage in Seoul for First-Time Visitors.
ย
And if you prefer places that feel less like the standard tourist checklist, see Best Local & Hidden Places to See Autumn Leaves in Seoul.
๐๏ธ A Simple Way to Plan Your October 2026 Trip
Start with the cities you’ll already be visiting, then use the festival dates to find events that fit naturally into your route.
ย
If you’re in Seoul October 3โ5
Gangnam Festival
Add it to a day exploring Gangnam, Apgujeong or COEX.
ย
If you’re in Seoul October 7โ11
K-Royal Culture Festival
A great choice if you want to combine palace sightseeing with traditional cultural programs.
ย
If you’re in Busan October 6โ15
Busan International Film Festival
Check the screening schedule first, then plan your Busan sightseeing around it.
ย
If you’re looking for an easy day trip from Seoul
Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival
A practical option if you want a regional festival without staying overnight.
ย
If you want a bigger regional experience
Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival
Stay overnight if possible so you can experience the lanterns after dark without rushing back.
๐จ Where to Stay During Korea's October Festivals
My biggest hotel tip? Don’t move hotels for every festival.
ย
It sounds exciting when you’re planning at home, but constantly packing your suitcase and checking in and out gets tiring very quickly. For most first-time visitors, Seoul is the easiest base.
ย
If you haven’t decided where to stay yet, my Best Areas to Stay in Seoul for First-Time Visitors breaks down the main neighborhoods and what each area is good for. If you’re traveling alone, I also have a separate Where to Stay in Seoul Alone: Budget Solo Accommodation Guide.
ย
For hotel booking, I recommend comparing your dates early on Agoda, especially if your trip overlaps with a major festival weekend.
ย
For Busan, use my Best Areas to Stay in Busan for First-Time Visitors before booking.
If you’re traveling solo, my Busan Solo Travel Accommodation Guide is also helpful.
ย
One thing I would do differently for major festivals
If you know you’re attending BIFF, Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival or another major regional event, don’t wait until the week before to book your hotel. Prices and availability can change quickly around popular weekends.
๐๏ธ Should You Book Korea Activities in Advance?
For the festivals themselves, it depends on the event.
Many festival grounds are free, but individual experiences can require tickets or reservations.
At the same time, you’re probably not coming all the way to Korea just for the festival.
ย
You might also want to book:
Palace experiences
N Seoul Tower
Day trips
Food tours
Theme parks
Hanbok rental
Rail-related activities
Busan attractions
Nami Island packages
I usually recommend checking what’s available on Klook before the trip, especially if you already know your travel dates.
Browse Korea activities and tours on Klook
Just remember that festival entry being free doesn’t mean every activity inside the festival is free.
๐ก 12 Practical Tips for Visiting Korea Festivals in October
1. Check the Korean festival name
Search the Korean name on Naver for local announcements, maps and schedules.
Example: ์ง์ฃผ๋จ๊ฐ์ ๋ฑ์ถ์ 2026
ย
2. Check the daily program
Festival dates can span several days, but specific performances may only happen on certain days.
ย
3. Check what’s actually free
Free admission doesn’t always mean free activities. Food, workshops, special experiences and performances may cost extra.
ย
4. Arrive early
Popular festivals can get crowded. Arriving earlier is especially helpful for photography and evening programs.
ย
5. Stay after sunset
For lantern festivals like the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, the atmosphere changes completely once the lights come on.
ย
6. Wear comfortable shoes
Festival days often involve a lot of walking, especially when combined with sightseeing and public transportation.
ย
7. Bring layers
October afternoons can be comfortable while evenings feel much cooler. A light jacket is worth packing.
See my What to Wear in Korea During Autumn guide.
ย
8. Use Naver Map
Search the Korean festival name, check the exact location and save it before leaving your hotel. For more useful apps, see my 15 Essential Apps to Download Before Your Korea Trip (2026 Tourist Guide).
ย
9. Have reliable internet
You’ll need data for maps, translation, transportation and last-minute festival updates.
See my Korea SIM Card, eSIM or Pocket WiFi Guide.
ย
10. Don’t plan distant festivals on the same day
Two events may look possible on a calendar, but long travel times can quickly take over your day.
ย
11. Carry some cash
Korea is very card-friendly, but cash can still be useful at smaller food stalls, markets and regional festivals.
See my Cash vs Card in Korea guide.
ย
12. Have a rainy-day backup
October weather can still affect outdoor events. Check the forecast and keep one indoor activity in mind.
โ๏ธ Planning Your First Korea Trip?
If you’re still organizing the basics, I recommend sorting out the practical things before worrying about your festival schedule.
ย
Start with my Korea Entry Requirements: Visa, K-ETA, e-Arrival Card & Immigration Guide.
ย
Then check How to Get from Incheon Airport to Seoul so you know what to expect when you land.
ย
And if this is your first-ever Korea trip, my First Time in South Korea: Complete Beginner Travel Guide is a good starting point.
ย
I also recommend saving my Korea Travel Checklist before your flight.
๐ What Should You Eat at Korean Festivals?
This is one of the parts I personally enjoy most.
Don’t go to a food festival and only take photos.
Eat.
Try the local specialty, look for something you’ve never ordered before, and don’t be afraid to point at something interesting at a food stall.
ย
October is particularly good for food-focused travel because several festivals on this list are built around regional specialties:
๐ Jeonju โ Bibimbap
๐ง Imsil โ Cheese
๐ฅฉ Hoengseong โ Korean beef
๐ถ๏ธ Gwangju โ Kimchi
๐ Gimcheon โ Gimbap
๐ฑ Geumsan โ Ginseng
๐ฒ Busan โ Pork soup
โ Gangneung โ Coffee

๐ Seoul October Festivals: A Separate Guide
If your trip is mainly based in Seoul, you don’t need to scroll through the entire nationwide list.
The main Seoul festivals in this guide are:
Seoul Festival | Korean Name | 2026 Date | Free / Paid |
๐ค Gangnam Festival | ๊ฐ๋จํ์คํฐ๋ฒ | Oct 3โ5 | ๐ Mostly free |
๐ K-Royal Culture Festival | ๊ถ์ค๋ฌธํ์ถ์ | Oct 7โ11 | ๐ Many programs free |
๐ Hangang Festival โ Fall | ํ๊ฐํ์คํฐ๋ฒ ๊ฐ์ | Oct 17โ25 | ๐ Many programs free |
๐บ Hanseong Baekje Festival | ํ์ฑ๋ฐฑ์ ๋ฌธํ์ | Oct 23โ25 | ๐ Free |

๐ October 2026 Festival Planning by Weekend
Here’s how I would personally look at the October festival calendar when planning a Korea trip.
ย
October 2โ4
This is one of the busiest festival weekends of the month:
Jeonju Bibimbap Festival
Busan International Rock Festival
Sorae Port Festival
Bupyeong Pungmul Festival
Yangju Cheonilhong Festival
If you’re staying in Seoul, Yangju is one of the easier regional options. Sorae Port and Bupyeong are convenient if you want to explore Incheon, while Jeonju and Busan make more sense if they’re already part of your route.
ย
October 3โ11
This is another packed stretch, with festivals including:
Gangnam Festival
Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival
Baekje Cultural Festival
Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival
Busan International Film Festival
K-Royal Culture Festival
Hoengseong Korean Beef Festival
Imsil N Cheese Festival
Jeongeup Chrysanthemum Festival
Geumsan Ginseng Festival
Jeju World Natural Heritage Festival
If you’re traveling during this period, you’ll have plenty of choices across Seoul, central Korea and beyond.
ย
October 9โ11
This weekend is especially busy with:
Silla Cultural Festival
Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Night
GHOST Gyeonggi Hallyu OST Festival
Jarasum Jazz Festival
Imsil N Cheese Festival
Check which destination fits your route before deciding which event to attend.
ย
October 15โ25
Later October brings:
Ulsan Whale Festival
Geumjeongsanseong Festival
Tamna Cultural Festival
Hangang Festival โ Fall
Gangneung Coffee Festival
Busan Pork Soup Festival
This is a particularly good period if you want to combine festivals with autumn foliage, cafรฉs, coastal scenery and other seasonal activities.
ย
October 23โ31
The month finishes with:
Hanseong Baekje Festival
Gwangju Kimchi Festival
Gimcheon Gimbap Festival
Yeosu Night Sea Fireworks Festival
If you’re still in Korea for the final weekend of October, Yeosu is a beautiful coastal option for ending the month with fireworks.
โ Frequently Asked Questions About Korea Festivals in October 2026

For first-time visitors, top choices include the K-Royal Culture Festival, Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival, Jeonju Bibimbap Festival, Silla Cultural Festival and Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Night.
ย
Are Korean festivals in October free?
Many have free general admission, but food, workshops, special experiences and some performances may require separate fees or tickets.
ย
What is the best free festival in Korea in October?
It depends on what you enjoy. I’d choose K-Royal Culture Festival for culture, Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival for nighttime scenery and Jeonju Bibimbap Festival for food.
ย
What is the best festival in Seoul in October 2026?
My personal pick is the K-Royal Culture Festival (๊ถ์ค๋ฌธํ์ถ์ ) because it combines Seoul’s royal palaces with cultural performances and traditional experiences.
ย
Which October festival is best for food?
Food-focused options include the Jeonju Bibimbap, Imsil N Cheese, Gwangju Kimchi, Gimcheon Gimbap, Geumsan Ginseng, Hoengseong Korean Beef and Busan Pork Soup festivals.
ย
Which Korean festival is best for photography?
The Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival is one of my top choices because of its illuminated lanterns along the river. The K-Royal Culture Festival is another good option for traditional architecture and cultural scenes.
ย
Can I visit Suwon from Seoul for the festival?
Yes. The Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival is one of the easier regional festivals to visit as a day trip from Seoul.
ย
Is Busan worth visiting in October 2026?
Absolutely. October includes events such as the Busan International Rock Festival, Busan International Film Festival, Geumjeongsanseong Festival and Busan Pork Soup Festival.

Should I book a hotel early for October?
I recommend booking early if your trip overlaps with a major festival weekend. October is already a popular autumn travel period, and accommodation can become more limited around large events.
ย
How early should I arrive at a Korean festival?
For smaller events, arriving around the start of the day’s program is usually fine. For major festivals and popular evening programs, arriving earlier gives you more time to explore and find a good viewing spot.
ย
Do I need a tour to attend Korean festivals?
Usually not. Most festivals can be visited independently, although a tour or local guide can be helpful when transportation is complicated or you want to explore several attractions in the same area.
โค๏ธ My Honest Advice for Visiting Korea in October
If there’s one thing I want you to take away from this guide, it’s this:
Don’t try to see everything.
ย
October makes that especially difficult because there are so many tempting festivals. You might want to see the lanterns in Jinju, eat at a food festival in Jeonju, catch BIFF in Busan and visit a coffee festival in Gangneung โ all in the same trip.
Suddenly, you’ve planned six cities in eight days.
ย
I’ve lived in Korea long enough to know that this usually isn’t the most enjoyable way to travel. Choose the festivals that fit naturally into your route and give yourself time to enjoy the destination too.
ย
If you’re mostly staying in Seoul:
Choose the K-Royal Culture Festival, Gangnam Festival or Hangang Festival โ Fall.
ย
If you want an easy day trip:
Choose the Suwon Hwaseong Cultural Festival or Incheon Open Port Cultural Heritage Night.
ย
ย
If you’re planning a regional trip:
Consider Jinju, Gyeongju, Busan or Yeosu, depending on your route and dates.
ย
If you’re a food traveler:
Look at Jeonju Bibimbap, Imsil N Cheese, Gwangju Kimchi or Gimcheon Gimbap Festival.
ย
If you’re visiting Jeju:
Check the Jeju World Natural Heritage Festival and Tamna Cultural Festival based on your dates.
And if autumn foliage is one of your main reasons for visiting Korea, leave some time for that too.
ย
Sometimes the best day is simply taking the train somewhere, finding a small cafรฉ and seeing where the day takes you. That’s one of the things I love most about autumn in Korea.
๐ Final Thoughts
October 2026 is a fantastic month to experience South Korea.
ย
From Seoul’s royal palaces and Busan’s film and music scene to Jeonju’s food culture, Jinju’s lanterns, Gyeongju’s Silla history, Gangneung’s coffee culture and Jeju’s natural heritage, there are so many different ways to experience Korea beyond the usual tourist spots.
What I love most about October festivals is that they can turn into much more than a single event on your calendar. They can lead you to a new city, a local dish, a historical site or a part of Korea you might not have otherwise visited.
ย
๐ Enjoy the festival, eat something local, stay until sunset when you can, and leave yourself a little room to wander. That’s usually when Korea becomes the most memorable.
ย
