🏖️ Best Areas to Stay in Busan for First-Time Visitors (2026 Guide)
By Richelle (JustKTravel) • Updated Sep 2026
Table of Contents
ToggleNot sure where to stay in Busan for your first trip? I completely understand why this can be confusing.
Busan is a big city, and the neighborhoods can feel surprisingly different. Haeundae feels like a beach resort, Gwangalli is all about evening views and cafés, Seomyeon is a busy downtown hub, while Nampo-dong gives you a much more traditional Busan experience.
So rather than asking, “Which hotel is the best?”, I recommend asking:
“Which area will make my itinerary easiest?”
That is the approach I use when planning stays in Korea. A beautiful hotel isn’t necessarily the best choice if you’re spending an hour getting to the places you actually want to visit.
For most first-time visitors, I would shortlist Haeundae, Gwangalli, Seomyeon and Nampo-dong first. Busan Station is particularly useful for KTX travelers, while Songdo is worth considering if you prefer a quieter coastal stay.
Quick Answer: Where Should You Stay in Busan?
Area | Best For | Atmosphere | My Pick |
Beaches & first trips | Lively seaside | ⭐ Best overall
Couples & night views | Relaxed waterfront | ⭐ Best atmosphere
Shopping & transport | Busy downtown | ⭐ Best central base
Food & markets | Traditional Busan | ⭐ Best for food
KTX travelers | Practical | ⭐ Best convenience
Quiet beach stay | Relaxed coast | ⭐ Best quiet option |
My quick picks:
First Busan trip: Haeundae
Best night views: Gwangalli
Best transportation: Seomyeon
Best markets and street food: Nampo-dong
Best for KTX: Busan Station
Quietest coastal option: Songdo
1. Haeundae Beach – Best Overall for First-Time Visitors
If this is your first Busan trip and you want the classic combination of beach, restaurants, cafés and attractions, Haeundae is probably the easiest place to start.
What I like about Haeundae is that you don’t have to plan every minute of your day. You can walk along the beach in the morning, grab something from Haeundae Traditional Market, visit an attraction in the afternoon and come back for dinner without constantly crossing the city.
Things to do around Haeundae
Haeundae Beach
Dongbaekseom
Haeundae Traditional Market
Cheongsapo
The Bay 101
🚆 Getting to Haeundae
From Busan Station: Take Metro Line 1 → transfer to Line 2 at Seomyeon → Haeundae Station. About 40–50 minutes.
From Gimhae Airport: Take the Light Rail → Sasang Station → transfer to Line 2 → Haeundae Station. About 60–75 minutes.
For a first trip, the Haeundae Sky Capsule and Beach Train are especially easy to combine with a hotel stay in this area. Busan X the Sky, SEA LIFE Busan Aquarium, ClubD Oasis, Spa Land and yacht cruises are also convenient additions.
Recommended Haeundae Hotels
L7 Haeundae by LOTTE HOTELS – A modern choice for travelers who want the beach and subway nearby.
Shilla Stay Busan Haeundae – A comfortable option if you want something polished without going straight into luxury pricing.
Paradise Hotel Busan – A great choice if the hotel itself is part of the vacation and you want a more luxurious beachfront experience.
🍽️ Where to Eat in Haeundae
One of the easiest things about staying here is finding food after a long sightseeing day. You don’t have to go far for Korean food, seafood, cafés or casual restaurants.
For specific recommendations, see 10 Best Restaurants Near Haeundae Beach, Busan: Local Favorites & Hidden Gems (2026).
Don’t assume beachfront restaurants are automatically the best choice. Some of the more interesting and better-value places are tucked into the streets behind the main beach area.
My Haeundae tip
If you’re rarely in your hotel during the day, I wouldn’t automatically pay a premium for an ocean-view room. Put that extra budget toward an activity, a better meal or another night in Korea.
2. Gwangalli Beach – Best for Couples and Night Views
Gwangalli has a different personality.
If Haeundae feels like a major beach destination, Gwangalli feels more like a place where you can slow down.
The big attraction is, of course, Gwangan Bridge. I especially like this area for evenings. You can have dinner, grab coffee, walk along the beach and watch the bridge light up without needing another major attraction on your schedule.
Things to do around Gwangalli
Gwangalli Beach
Gwangan Bridge
Millak Waterfront Park
Millak Raw Fish Center
Centum City
If you want to add an activity, compare Spa Land, a Busan attraction pass or a coastal cruise depending on your itinerary.
🌊 Getting to Gwangalli Beach
From Busan Station: Take Metro Line 1 → transfer to Line 2 at Seomyeon → Gwangan Station. About 35–45 minutes.
From Gimhae Airport: Light Rail → Sasang Station → Line 2 → Gwangan Station. About 50–60 minutes.
Recommended Gwangalli Hotels
Kent Hotel Gwangalli by Kensington – Convenient for travelers who want to stay right around the beachfront.
Hotel Aqua Palace – Worth considering if you want a little more space or are traveling with family.
H Avenue Hotel Gwangalli – A useful option to compare if you’re trying to keep accommodation costs reasonable.
🍽️ Where to Eat in Gwangalli
The restaurant scene is part of the reason I like this neighborhood.
If you’re staying here, check out 8 Best Restaurants Near Gwangalli Beach, Busan for First-Time Visitors (2026 Guide) before deciding where to eat.
My tip: Leave one evening relatively free. Gwangalli is at its best when you aren’t rushing from attraction to attraction.
And if the bridge view matters to you, always check the specific room category rather than assuming every room has the same view.
3. Seomyeon – Best for Transportation, Shopping and Nightlife
Seomyeon is my practical choice.
If your Busan itinerary looks something like:
Haeundae → Nampo → Gwangalli → markets → cafés → shopping
then having a central base can save you quite a bit of travel time.
Seomyeon is served by Subway Lines 1 and 2, and the surrounding area is packed with restaurants, cafés, shopping and nightlife.
You won’t wake up beside the ocean, but you’ll have one of the city’s most useful transportation bases.
Things to do around Seomyeon
Seomyeon Underground Shopping Center
Jeonpo Café Street
Lotte Department Store
Bujeon Market
Local restaurants and nightlife
🏙️Getting to Seomyeon
From Busan Station: Take Metro Line 1 directly to Seomyeon Station. About 15 minutes.
From Gimhae Airport: Light Rail → Sasang Station → Line 2 → Seomyeon Station. About 30–40 minutes.
Recommended Seomyeon Hotels
Lotte Hotel Busan – Best for travelers who want a luxury stay and excellent shopping access.
Solaria Nishitetsu Hotel Busan – A comfortable central option for couples and families.
Arban Hotel – Worth comparing if room size and value are important.
If you’re traveling alone, you can also read Where to Stay in Busan for Solo Travelers for a more detailed comparison of solo-friendly neighborhoods.
My Seomyeon tip
If you’re planning lots of sightseeing, don’t underestimate how useful it is to be near a major subway interchange.
Sometimes a slightly less glamorous hotel in a better location will make your trip much easier.
4. Nampo-dong – Best for Markets, Food and Old Busan
Nampo-dong is the area I would choose if food, markets and traditional Busan are high on my list.
This part of the city feels very different from Haeundae. Instead of modern beachfront hotels, you’ll find markets, shopping streets, seafood restaurants and some of Busan’s most recognizable traditional attractions.
It’s a particularly good base if your itinerary includes:
Jagalchi Market
BIFF Square
Gukje Market
Bupyeong Kkangtong Market
Yongdusan Park
Nampo-dong shopping streets
Gamcheon Culture Village
🛍️ Getting to Nampo-dong
From Busan Station: Take Metro Line 1 toward Dadaepo → Jagalchi Station or Nampo Station. About 10–15 minutes.
From Gimhae Airport: Light Rail → Sasang Station → Line 2 to Seomyeon → transfer to Line 1 → Nampo/Jagalchi. About 45–55 minutes.
Recommended Nampo Hotels
Stanford Hotel Busan – Convenient for travelers who want easy access to Jagalchi and Nampo.
GNB Hotel – A practical choice for exploring the markets and central attractions.
Hotel Foret Premier Nampo – A comfortable option near the main sightseeing area.
Aventree Hotel Busan – Convenient for Gukje Market, BIFF Square and shopping streets.
Why I like Nampo
You can step outside, grab breakfast, wander through the markets, stop for street food and continue toward Jagalchi without needing to organize every stop around transportation.
The trade-off is simple:
Nampo is not a beach neighborhood.
So if waking up and walking onto the sand is important to you, Haeundae or Gwangalli will probably suit you better.
5. Busan Station – Best for KTX Travelers
If you’re arriving in Busan by KTX with luggage, this area makes a lot of sense. I know the temptation is to choose a beautiful beach hotel, but if you’re only staying one or two nights, convenience can be more valuable.
Staying around Busan Station means you can get to your hotel quickly after arriving and avoid dragging your suitcase through several subway transfers.
Nearby attractions
Busan Station
Busan Chinatown
Texas Street
Yongdusan Park
Busan Tower
Nampo-dong
🚆 Getting to Busan Station
From Gimhae Airport: Take the Light Rail → Sasang Station, then Metro Line 2 → Seomyeon, and transfer to Line 1 → Busan Station. About 40–50 minutes.
Recommended Hotels
ASTI Hotel Busan Station – Excellent for travelers prioritizing KTX convenience.
Toyoko Inn Busan Station 1 – A practical budget choice, particularly for short stays.
Ramada Encore by Wyndham Busan Station – Worth comparing if you prefer an international hotel brand.
My tip
If your trip is short, don’t choose your hotel based purely on which neighborhood looks prettiest in photos.
Choose the one that makes your travel days easier.
6. Songdo Beach – Best for a Quieter Coastal Stay
Songdo is worth considering if you want the sea without the busier atmosphere of Haeundae.
The area is known for:
Songdo Beach
Songdo Skywalk
Yonggung Suspension Bridge
Amnam Park
The Songdo Marine Cable Car is the obvious activity to add here.
🏖️ Getting to Songdo Beach
From Busan Station: Take Metro Line 1 → Jagalchi Station, then transfer to a local bus or taxi to Songdo Beach. About 30–40 minutes.
From Gimhae Airport: Light Rail → Sasang Station → Line 2 → Seomyeon → Line 1 → Jagalchi, then bus or taxi. About 60–75 minutes.
Recommended Hotels
Grab The Ocean Songdo – A good option to compare for ocean views and value.
Fairfield by Marriott Busan Songdo Beach – A modern international-brand option near the beach.
Wyndham Grand Busan – A more upscale choice for travelers who prefer a quieter coastal stay.
I wouldn’t necessarily choose Songdo for a first-ever Busan trip if you only have two nights. However, with a longer itinerary, it can be a nice change of pace.

Best Day Trips from Busan
One of the things I love about using Busan as a base is that you don’t have to limit your trip to Busan itself.
If you have 4–5 days, I would seriously consider adding a day trip.
🏯 Gyeongju – Best for History
If you only have time for a one day trip from Busan, Gyeongju would be my first choice.
Gyeongju was the capital of the ancient Silla Kingdom, and the experience feels completely different from modern Busan.
You can explore Bulguksa, historic tombs, traditional streets and other heritage sites before returning to Busan in the evening.
Klook currently offers several guided Gyeongju day trips from Busan, including UNESCO-focused itineraries and options combining Gyeongju with the Busan Sky Capsule.
Best for: History, culture, photography and first-time Korea visitors.
Worth checking via Klook: Gyeongju UNESCO Day Tour from Busan
🌊 Pohang – Best for Coastline and Space Walk
Pohang is a fun choice if you’ve already seen Busan’s major attractions.
The Hwanho Space Walk is one of its most recognizable attractions, while Homigot gives you a completely different coastal experience. Klook currently lists day tours from Busan combining Pohang attractions such as Space Walk and Homigot, with some options also combining nearby Gyeongju.
Best for: Coastal scenery, photography and something less typical.
Explore it via Klook: Pohang Space Walk & Homigot Day Tour from Busan
🌿 Ulsan – Best for Nature
Ulsan is often overlooked by international tourists, which is exactly why it can be interesting.
Depending on the itinerary, you can see places such as Daewangam Park, Taehwa River and Jangsaengpo Whale Culture Village.
Klook currently offers a small-group Ulsan day tour from Busan with round-trip transportation.
Best for: Nature, coastal scenery and travelers who want somewhere less touristy.
Daytrip package via Klook: Ulsan Small Group Day Tour from Busan
🌊 Tongyeong – Best for Coastal Views
Tongyeong is another beautiful option if you enjoy coastal scenery.
The city is known for its harbor, traditional market, colorful Dongpirang Village and views across the surrounding islands.
Klook currently lists Tongyeong day-trip options departing from Busan, including tours that combine Dongpirang, the traditional market and Skyline Luge.
Best for: Couples, families, coastal photography and a slower day.
Best to check via Klook: Tongyeong Day Tour from Busan
🌾 Namhae – Best for a Scenic Escape
If you want something that feels farther removed from the usual tourist route, consider Namhae.
The scenery is the main attraction: coastal roads, green landscapes, ocean viewpoints and the famous German Village.
Klook currently has a Namhae day tour from Busan featuring places such as German Village, Mulmihaean Observatory and a coastal cable car experience.
Best for: Scenic drives, nature, photography and travelers who want a quieter side of Korea.
Book daytrip via Klook: Namhae Island One-Day Tour from Busan
🌿 Miryang – Best for Culture & Local Experiences
Looking for somewhere a little different? Miryang is a nice option for travelers who want to experience a quieter, more local side of Korea. This small-group tour from Busan combines cultural sights with an easy organized itinerary.

🌳 Suncheon – Best for Gardens & Nature
If you don’t mind going farther from Busan, Suncheon makes an interesting day trip for nature lovers. It’s a great choice if you want to swap busy city sightseeing for gardens, wetlands and a more relaxed atmosphere.

Which Day Trip Should You Choose?
Day Trip | Best For | Recommended Time |
History & culture | Full day
Coast + Space Walk | Full day
Nature & coastline | Full day
Islands & coastal views | Full day
Scenic countryside | Full day
Local culture & scenery | Full day
Gardens, nature & wetlands | Full day |
My recommendation
For a first Korea trip, choose Gyeongju.
For a second Busan trip, I would look at Tongyeong, Namhae or Pohang.
If you love nature and want somewhere less obvious, Ulsan or Suncheon are worth considering. And if you’d like a quieter cultural experience closer to Busan, Miryang is another option to look into.
How Many Nights Should You Stay in Busan?
2 nights
Enough for a quick introduction.
Day 1: Haeundae + Sky Capsule + Gwangalli
Day 2: Nampo + Jagalchi + Gamcheon
3 nights
This is my preferred option for a first visit.
You can explore without making every hour a race.
4–5 nights
This is where I would consider adding a Gyeongju, Pohang, Ulsan, Tongyeong, Namhae, Miryang or Suncheon day trip.
If you want to see more of Korea without changing hotels, these destinations give you plenty of options for a full day outside Busan.
🚐 Short on Time in Busan? Consider a Guided Day Tour
If you only have 1–2 full days in Busan, trying to plan every attraction yourself can become surprisingly tiring. Busan is spread out, and some of the most popular places are quite far from each other. If you want to see more without spending your day figuring out subway transfers, buses, and travel times, a guided Busan day tour can be a great option.
I especially recommend this for first-time visitors who want to cover several major attractions in one day and still have time to enjoy the city.
⭐ Busan City Top Attractions Tour + Haeundae Blueline Park
This is a good option if you want to combine Busan’s coastal scenery, temples, viewpoints, and Haeundae attractions in one organized itinerary.
The itinerary includes:
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
Cheongsapo Daritdol Observatory
Haeundae Blueline Park
Haeundae Beach Train / coastal attractions
Other major Busan highlights depending on the tour schedule
Why I’d consider it: Instead of spending half your day moving between different parts of Busan, you can let the tour handle the transportation while you focus on sightseeing and taking photos.
👉 Check the latest availability and itinerary on Klook: Busan City Top Attractions Tour with Haeundae Blueline Park
🚡 Busan Day Tour: Sky Capsule, Gamcheon & Haeundae Blueline Park
If you want a tour that combines some of Busan’s most Instagrammable and iconic attractions, this is another option worth checking.
Highlights include:
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
Haeundae Blueline Park
Sky Capsule or Haeundae Beach Train
Huinnyeoul Munhwa Maul
Gamcheon Culture Village
Beautiful coastal viewpoints
This can be particularly useful if you’re visiting Busan for only a couple of days and don’t want to choose between Gamcheon, Haeundae, the Sky Capsule, and the seaside attractions.
👉 Check the latest availability and itinerary on Klook: Busan Day Tour: Sky Capsule, Gamcheon, Haeundae Blueline Park & More
🚌 Busan City One-Day Authentic Tour
For travelers who want a mix of sightseeing, culture, coastal views, and history, an authentic city tour can be another convenient choice.
The highlights include:
Gamcheon Culture Village
Haedong Yonggungsa Temple
Cheongsapo Daritdol Observatory
Haeundae Blueline Park
UN Memorial Cemetery
I like this type of itinerary because it goes beyond the usual photo spots and also introduces some of Busan’s historical side.

💡 My tip if you’re short on days
If you have 3–5 days in Busan, I’d personally prefer exploring at your own pace and spending more time in each neighborhood.
But if you only have 1–2 days, a guided day tour can make a lot of sense.
You can stay in one convenient area such as Haeundae, Gwangalli, or Seomyeon, then use one organized tour to cover attractions that would otherwise take much longer to connect by public transportation.
That way, you spend less time worrying about “How do I get there?” and more time actually enjoying Busan.
Busan Hotel Booking Tips
1. Choose your neighborhood before the hotel
Think about your itinerary first.
Beach → Haeundae/Gwangalli
Markets → Nampo
Transportation → Seomyeon
KTX → Busan Station
2. Check walking distance
“Near the subway” doesn’t always mean five minutes away.
Check the actual walking route, especially if you have luggage.
3. Check your room category
This is especially important for ocean-view hotels.
A hotel can be beachfront while your particular room faces the city.
4. Compare the final price
Busan hotel prices change with weekends, holidays and seasonal demand.
Always check your actual travel dates.
5. Don’t change hotels unnecessarily
For two or three nights, I would normally stay in one hotel.
Moving luggage takes time, and you may lose part of your sightseeing day.
Getting Around Busan
Busan has an extensive subway and bus network, but because the city is large, you will sometimes find that a taxi saves a lot of time.
Subway: Best for major neighborhoods.
Bus: Useful for attractions away from subway stations.
Taxi: Particularly useful with luggage, groups or late-night travel.
For route planning, I recommend Naver Map.
If you’re still deciding which transportation card to use, you can also read my guide to T-money Card vs Climate Card Seoul. Just remember that the Climate Card is primarily designed for Seoul transportation rather than being a universal Busan transportation pass. If you’re arriving from Seoul, my Incheon Airport to Busan Complete Transportation Guide is also useful before you book your hotel.
My Personal Picks
If I were planning a first Busan trip today:
🥇 Haeundae — my overall choice for a first visit.
🥈 Seomyeon — my practical choice when sightseeing across the city.
🥉 Gwangalli — my choice for beautiful evenings.
🍜 Nampo-dong — my choice for markets and food.
🚄 Busan Station — my choice for short KTX-focused stays.
🌊 Songdo — my choice for a quieter coastal trip.
And if I had four or five nights?
I’d seriously consider adding Gyeongju rather than trying to squeeze every Busan attraction into one itinerary.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best area to stay in Busan for first-time visitors?
For most first-time visitors, Haeundae is the easiest overall choice because you have the beach, restaurants and many attractions nearby.
If transportation is more important than the beach, choose Seomyeon.
For markets and local food, consider Nampo-dong.
Is Nampo-dong a good place to stay?
Yes. Nampo is particularly good for travelers interested in Jagalchi Market, BIFF Square, Gukje Market, Busan Tower and Korean street food.
Is Haeundae or Gwangalli better?
Choose Haeundae for a bigger beach and more tourist attractions.
Choose Gwangalli for a more relaxed waterfront atmosphere and Gwangan Bridge night views.
Is Seomyeon a good area for tourists?
Yes. It is one of Busan’s most convenient bases for travelers who want to explore multiple neighborhoods.
Where should I stay if I arrive by KTX?
Busan Station is the most convenient for a short stay or early departure.
For a longer beach-focused trip, I would continue to Haeundae or Gwangalli.
How many nights do I need in Busan?
I recommend 2–3 nights for a first visit.
If you want to add a day trip to Gyeongju, Pohang, Ulsan, Tongyeong, Namhae, Miryang or Suncheon, consider staying 4–5 nights.
Is Gyeongju worth visiting from Busan?
Absolutely. For first-time visitors, Gyeongju is probably the easiest day trip to recommend because it adds a completely different historical side of Korea to your itinerary.
Final Thoughts
Busan becomes much easier to plan once you stop looking for the single “best” neighborhood.
Instead, match your hotel to your travel style.
Haeundae if you want the beach.
Gwangalli if you want beautiful nights.
Seomyeon if you want convenience.
Nampo-dong if you want markets and food.
Busan Station if you’re traveling by KTX and early departure.
Songdo if you want a quieter coast.
And if you have extra days, don’t be afraid to leave Busan for a day. Gyeongju, Pohang, Ulsan, Tongyeong, Namhae, Miryang and Suncheon can add completely different experiences to your Korea trip.
The biggest hotel mistake I see travelers make is choosing accommodation based only on how beautiful the hotel looks.
Instead, look at your itinerary first.
Where are you actually going to spend your time?
Choose your hotel from there.
That usually leads to a much easier — and more enjoyable — Busan trip.
Reminder: Hotel prices, availability, room types and facilities can change. Always check the current Agoda listing for your exact dates before booking. Attraction schedules, tour routes and ticket inclusions can also change, so check the latest information before your trip.
